Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon.Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday met with the Acting Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba and other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the National Assembly.
The Acting IGP who described the visit as a famliliazation visit said that they are at the House to appreciate the efforts of the House in ensuring that the nation is bequeathed with a reliabe and viable Police Force.
The Police boss also said that the visit was to appreciate the House leadership on the passage of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 and expressed optimism of a continuous collaboration with the lawmakers.
He said: “we are aware that the House is promoting peace and unity in Nigeria. We are here to appreciate what the House is doing to promote the Police especially the passage of the Police Act 2020”.
The passage of the Police Act by the Hose he further said is going to enable smooth operations of the Police in line with the dictates of the modern days.
The Ag.IGP also implored the lawmakers to ensure adequate funding for the Police Force in annual budgets and called for a speedy passage of other laws that would assist the Police Force in carrying out its constitutional duties.
On his own part,the Speaker Hon. Gbajabiamila described the visitation as a visit of partnership and collaboration between the House and the Police hierarchy.
He congratulated the Ag.IGP on his appointment and extolled his personality noting that he has come into his new position with a great deal of accomplishments.
He assured the Police boss and his management team of continous funding of Police operations and urged them to always do a proper needs assessment before presenting its annual budgets to the parliament.
The Speaker also told the Police team that the House is worried about the prevailing security situation in the country and urged the Police hierarchy to do more work to stem the tide of insecurity in country.
Some notable senior Police officers that accompanied the Ag.IGP to the House include DIG Tijani Baba, AIG AA Ilori and the Force Public Relations Officer CP Frank Mba among others.
