Deputy Commander, Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Federal Capital Territory Command, Fatima A. Popoola has identified members of communities, parents and teachers as those responsible for the rising cases of drug abuse in Kaduna and Nigeria at large.
She stated this at the inaugural ceremony of Life Challenge Academy, Barnawa, in Kaduna South Local Government Area on Friday.
Mrs Popoola explained that members of communities where drug barons reside, tend to shield and protect such persons from arrest due to their benevolence to the committee.
She also accused parents of not shielding their children from influences of drug pushers and exposing the children to drug use through their flippant talks.
According to her, some school teachers often introduce their students to smoking and other forms of drug abuse.
Similarly, Chief superintendent of Narcotic and officer in charge strike force 3 Kaduna, Mr .Abogunrin Olatunji, added that drug abuse is a global problem which requires the support of every member the society since neither the NDLEA nor the government can fight it alone
He decried the attitude of some members of the communities, adding that many at times , such members had thwarted efforts of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency at bringing to book drug barons and peddlers by refusing to give valuable information .
He pleaded with members of communities in Kaduna to volunteer the necessary information which would help in curbing the menace of substance use.
