The chairman committee on Banking Regulations Hon. Muhahammad Bello Elrufai says his committee would work tirelessly to improve the financial situation of Nigerian,
Hon. Elrufai stated this on Tuesday during the inaugural meeting of the committee on Banking regulations at the National Assembly Abuja
He also stated that the committee is ready to fulfill the oversight duties vested on them by the constitution.”I’m aware of the the responsibility before me, the vice chairman and i assure you that we are a family, and our doors will continually be opened to you as far as this committee is concerned,he added.
The chairman highlighted the objectives of the committee, detailing the short term objective, medium term objectives and long term objectives. He said, amongst others the committee is charged with over sighting four agencies which are the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Export and Import Bank, (NEXIM), and Nigeria Incentive Based risk sharing Systems for Agricultural lending, (NIRSAL).
Hon. Mohammad said there are opportunities and lot to be achieved by the committee and called on everyone to be involved regardless of party affiliations,
“as I said before the primary objective of this meeting , is the country, there is a financial situation and I think we need to put hands together to salvage the situation wether we’re APC, PDP,labor, APGA,SPP, the vision is for a better Nigeria,”He added.
Hon. Amobi Oga, A member of the committee Called for swift response to solve the fast deteriorating financial system of the country as a result of the rise in dollar to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians.
The committee agreed to set up its first adhoc committee headed by the Vice chairman Hon. Salisu koko to look into suggestions made by the members of the committee most especially on forex, and to strategize on how to engage the CBN. And other agencies of the committee’s oversight.
