In a show of solidarity and compassion, senators have come together to donate a total of N74 million to support the victims of the recent devastating flood in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Led by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, the senators visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to personally deliver the generous contribution. Each of the 108 senators pledged to donate N500,000, amounting to N54 million, while Senator Barau announced his personal donation of N10 million. The Northern Senators Forum also contributed N10 million, bringing the total donation to N74 million.
The group, including prominent senators such as Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua and Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, were warmly received by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum. During the visit, Senator Barau expressed heartfelt condolences to the people of Borno State and emphasized the importance of offering support during times of crisis.
“We commiserate with you, and we pray that may Allah grant those who lost their lives Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah SWT quicken the recovery of the injured persons, and may He make those who lost their valuables regain them as soon as possible,” Senator Barau said.
The senators also took the opportunity to pay their respects to Senator Baba Kaka Garbai, who recently lost his mother. The visit aimed to show solidarity and provide support to those affected by the recent tragedies.
The generous donation from the senators is a testament to their commitment to helping those in need and standing together in times of adversity. The support provided will undoubtedly make a significant impact in aiding the recovery and rebuilding efforts in Maiduguri and surrounding areas affected by the devastating flood.
