Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senate Committee Chairman on South East Development Commission (SEDC) and representative of Abia North, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of two Chinese expatriates and a police officer in Abia State. The victims were ambushed by gunmen while being escorted to a mining site in Isuikwato.
In a statement issued from his media office, Kalu expressed his shock and disappointment over the unprovoked attacks on the expatriates and police personnel.
He called for immediate action from the Inspector General of Police, the Abia State government, and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the killings.
Kalu stressed that despite ongoing efforts to combat insecurity, such heinous crimes continue to plague the region. He urged security agencies to take stronger measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and to safeguard the safety of both citizens and foreign nationals working in the area.
“ I call on the Inspector General of police, other relevant security agencies and authorities in the state to immediately arrest the killers and prosecute them accordingly. Appropriate measures should also be in place to forestall the reoccurrence of such an incident.
The senator extended his condolences to the Chinese Ambassador and the families of the victims, emphasizing the need for heightened security to foster economic growth and development in the country.
