As reactions continue on the N27.5trillion, 2024 budget proposal presented by President Bola Tinubu to the joint session of the national assembly on Wednesday, the lawmaker representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/ Calabar South Federal Constituency, Hon. Joseph Bassey says, Budget implementation Should be taking seriously to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
He lamented the poor implementation of budget as one of the major problems of Nigeria but he believes that President Bola Tinubu with the support of 10th National Assembly led by speaker Tajudeen Abbas all Nigeria will fill the impact of budget of renewed hope by the President.
Hon. Bassey speaking to Journalists while reacting to presentation of budget to joint session of National Assembly on Wednesday.
According to him,over years the Bakassi people are clearly neglected by the Nigerian government, despite the huge amount benefited from the budget since they were ceded to Cameroon in 2008 for peace to reign.
He says, Bakassi Peninsula has the highest oil wells in the whole world,but you aware how the place was ceded to Cameroon in 2008 for peace to reign but the good numbers of Nigeria leaving they are in a double jeopardy because has by neglected us completely he says”.
However, Hon. Bassey believes that the budget of renewed hope by president Bola Tinubu it will renew the hope of Bakassi people, and given special attention.
According to Hon. Bassey, government of renewed hope want to see how it can properly fund the security system, and the system is going to improve soon and the country will become safer in order to attract local and foreign investments”.
He says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government cannot deliver on its Renewed Hope Agenda without having to undertake borrowing of money to fund critical projects like insecurity, food security and other infrastructure.
He says, looking at Nigeria right now, there’s no way we can move forward if money is a challenges to fund those critical infrastructure so government need to borrow able to fund projects that are going on to impact the lives of the people,” he said.
According to him, “The budget is going to be pass without delay. As you know, the President has made it very clear and appealed to the lawmakers to expedite the passage of the 2024 Appropriation he said “
