The burial Committee for the late Former Speaker of the House of Representatives,Rt.Hon.Agunwa Anaekwe has announced his burial plans.
During a conference in Abuja, Co-Chairman Burial Committee Senator Osita Izunaso described Hon.Agunwa as a role model to many because of his contribution to Nigeria democracy he said.
Sen.Izunaso announced that the burial program will commence from Thursday 2nd of October 2025 with Holy mass at the Trinity catholic Church in Maitama Abuja
by 12 noon in his honour,night of tribute at National Christian Center Abuja by 5Pm, Thursday 16th of October ,Validatory section at National Assembly in the House of Representative Chamber, a session will also hold in Anambra state House Assembly Akwa, Friday 17th, 2025 funeral mass at St. Peter Catholic church Adazni in Anaocha local government in Anambra state by 11am ,burial ceremony will follow in his compound by 2 pm.
He said Hon.Anaekwe is a living testimony of compassion, generosity, and his service to humanity which became legacy to many generation.
According to him,”His heart for giving knows no bounds through his unshakable commitment to democratic journey, philanthropy, he has lifted many out of despair, restored dignity to the forgotten, and shared joy with those in need”he said.
Also speaking,the former Governor of Anambra state and former Senator Chief Dr Chris Ngige said”,honor is not just an award but a reflection of who he is: a man whose legacy is etched in the hearts of the people he has touched.Hon Anaekwe has shown that true greatness lies not in riches amassed, but in lives transformed.”
He said,”Cerebrating this milestone also pray that the Almighty continued to remember his generation for the man that has touched life and become a political figure in the South East and Nigeria in general.”
Hon.Anaekwe became the House of Representatives Speaker on December 5, 1992 and ended on November 17, 1993 when the administration was terminated by the General Sani Abacha military junta.
former Speaker of the House of Representatives in the aborted Third Republic, Chief Agunwa Anaekwe, died at age of 68 years.
