As Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, prepare for a decisive showdown against Senegal in the quarter-finals of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon Kabiru Amadu, has issued a rallying call to the players: beat Senegal and fly the nation’s flag at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Describing Monday’s clash as a “golden opportunity,” Hon. Amadu stressed that the match is more than just a step toward continental glory it is a gateway to the global stage.
“The match against Senegal is more than a quarter-final; it is a chance to fly the Nigerian flag on the world stage once again. I urge the players to rise to the occasion and make the nation proud,” Amadu said in a statement released Sunday.
The Flying Eagles remain unbeaten in the tournament after topping Group B with a 1-0 win over Tunisia and draws against Morocco and Kenya. However, they now face a formidable Senegalese side known for its physical prowess and tactical discipline in what promises to be a thrilling West African battle.
Hon. Amadu, a long-time advocate for youth sports, praised the team’s performance so far and pledged the continued support of the National Assembly.
“Nigerians are fully behind you. We believe in your talent, resilience, and determination. Qualifying for the World Cup will not only be a reward for your hard work but a unifying moment for the country,” he added.
The high-stakes encounter kicks off at 5 p.m. local time on Monday. A victory would not only take Nigeria into the semi-finals but also earn them a coveted ticket to Chile for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. With seven titles to their name, the Flying Eagles remain the most successful team in the competition’s history and all eyes will be on them to extend that legacy.
