Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has thrown his weight behind Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, expressing unwavering confidence in their ability to win the upcoming CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
Speaking in a farewell message to the team, Hon. Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, praised the Flying Eagles’ impressive form, discipline, and technical direction under Coach Aliyu Zubairu. He noted that with their status as reigning WAFU B champions and the robust preparations undertaken, Nigeria is poised to clinch a record-extending seventh title.
“Our boys are talented, focused, and hungry for glory,” Hon. Amadu stated. “With the level of preparation, the support from the Nigeria Football Federation, and the fighting spirit we’re known for, I strongly believe we’re on course to not only qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup but also lift the CAF trophy.”
He further commended the Nigeria Sports Commission and the NFF for ensuring early and effective preparations through intensive training camps and high-quality international friendlies.
Reaffirming the House Committee’s support for youth sports development, Hon. Amadu promised continued advocacy for increased investment in grassroots football and legislative backing for initiatives that nurture young talent.
“As lawmakers, we are committed to ensuring our youth teams receive the support they need to succeed globally,” he added.
Hon. Amadu also called on Nigerians at home and abroad to rally behind the team with prayers and moral support as they embark on their continental mission.
The CAF U-20 AFCON kicks off on April 27 and will run until May 18, 2025. Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, housed in Group B, will battle Tunisia, Kenya, and Morocco for a spot in the semifinals and a ticket to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
