The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has issued a stirring call to the Super Eagles, urging them to “go for the ticket” as they prepare for Sunday’s decisive FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff final against DR Congo.
Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, expressed unwavering confidence in the national team’s ability to rise to the occasion. In a statement signed by his media aide, Niyi Busari, the lawmaker said Nigeria has the skill, depth, and winning mentality required to secure World Cup qualification.
He commended the Super Eagles for their emphatic 4–1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s semifinal, but stressed that the team must remain focused for the final hurdle.
“First of all, I congratulate the Super Eagles for beating Gabon to reach Sunday’s final against DR Congo,” Amadu said.
“However, the job is not yet done. Nigeria undoubtedly has the quality to win, but the team must not underrate the Congolese. They should approach the match with the same energy and determination displayed against Benin Republic and Gabon.”
Nigeria’s road to the final came via a dramatic semifinal clash: Akor Adams fired the opener in the 78th minute, Gabon’s Mario Lemina forced extra time with a late equaliser, but Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead before Victor Osimhen sealed the game with an impressive brace.
DR Congo booked their place in the playoff final with a tense 1–0 victory over Cameroon, courtesy of captain Chancel Mbemba’s stoppage-time strike. The Congolese, who last appeared at a World Cup in 1974, are seeking a historic return to the global stage.
The winner of Sunday’s showdown at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco — scheduled for 7:00 pm — will clinch a highly coveted spot in the FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff.
