In a groundbreaking milestone, Mis. Grace Ike has been elected as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, 43 years after its establishment.
Ike, a renowned journalist from the Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN), was sworn in on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, alongside four other executive members.
The newly elected executives include Mr. Yahaya Ndambabo of Voice of Nigeria (VON) as Vice Chairman, Comrade Jide Oyekunle of Independent Newspaper as Secretary, and Sandra Udeike of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) as Treasurer.
The election was conducted under tight security, with a massive turnout of journalists from various media organizations.
In her inauguration speech, Ike emphasized her commitment to repositioning the NUJ FCT Council through innovative projects that would directly impact the welfare of members.
She pledged to work collaboratively with the newly elected NUJ National President, Alhaji Yahya Alhassan, and his team to strengthen the ideals of the journalism profession.
Ike’s election marks a significant milestone in the history of the NUJ FCT Council, and her leadership is expected to bring about a new era of progress and excellence for journalists in the nation’s capital.
