The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum (NASSLAF) has suspended Emeka Nwala from his position as chairman, effective Monday, October 28, 2024.
Nwala’s suspension stems from allegations of unilateral actions, disregard for constituted authorities and failure to ensure payment of allowances to management aides. The Executive Committee had previously passed a vote of no confidence, citing insubordination and violations of the NASSLAF Constitution.
“Before the suspension of Mr Nwala, the Executive Committee had passed a vote of no confidence on him for insubordination to the Executive Committee and violations of the NASSLAF Constitution. The vote was passed by 8 out of 11 members of the Executive Committee.”
“The decision to suspend Mr Nwala was not taken lightly, but with serious consideration of the welfare and wellbeing of our members and in order to have an effective leadership that will be able to robustly serve the interest of members. “
Vice Chairman Hon. Ishaq Baba Sale has been appointed Acting Chairman, tasked with safeguarding members’ interests. Sale pledged to prioritize aides’ welfare, ensuring benefits from the minimum wage law and fostering open communication.
“Sale urged aides to remain calm, promising a listening leadership style and commitment to protecting their interests and wellbeing.”
The suspension has been communicated to key authorities, including the President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Clerk of the National Assembly. Thirty-two CWC members endorsed the decision.
Nwala’s removal aims to restore effective leadership and prioritize member welfare. Hon. Sale’s tenure is expected to address ongoing concerns and promote stability within NASSLAF.
