In a show of solidarity and unwavering support, Niger Delta youths have pledged their commitment to the success of the President Bola Tinubu administration. During a recent event in Port Harcourt, Senate President Godswill Akpabio was assured by the youths that they would not participate in any planned protests against the government, emphasizing their ownership of this administration.
The assurance came as Akpabio launched a Youth Internship Scheme through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), aimed at engaging 10,000 youths from the region. The program, designed to enhance skills development, will provide beneficiaries with a monthly stipend of N50,000 in its first phase.
Akpabio highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region, citing recent projects initiated by the NDDC in response to a Presidential directive. These projects, which include infrastructure improvements such as roads, bridges, and electricity, are seen as a step towards overall development in the region.
Speaking at the event, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku praised the transition of Niger Delta youths from militant activities to constructive engagement, noting the positive impact of the region’s development efforts. He highlighted the Project HOPE initiative, aimed at providing skills training and opportunities for youths in the region.
Participants at the event, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Benjamin Kalu and President of the Ijaw Youth Council Ambassador Jonathan Lokpobiri, commended the NDDC for its efforts in improving the lives of Niger Deltans. They collectively denounced any plans for protests against the current administration, reaffirming their commitment to peace and development in Nigeria.
