The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has paid heartfelt tribute to the late Hon. Ekene Adams, marking one year since the passing of the respected lawmaker and sports advocate.
In a solemn ceremony led by the current Chairman, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, the Committee remembered Hon. Adams as a “visionary and service-driven leader” whose influence still echoes across Nigeria’s sports and legislative sectors.
“Honourable Ekene Adams was a passionate and selfless leader whose dedication to Nigerian sports was unwavering,” Hon. Amadu said in a statement. “He championed the welfare of athletes, advocated for better infrastructure, and promoted youth empowerment through sports.”
Born on April 16, 1985, and elected under the Labour Party, Hon. Adams died on July 16, 2024. During his time as Chairman of the Sports Committee, he was widely credited with reshaping the nation’s sports policy direction and promoting athlete-centered reforms.
The Committee described his leadership as “bold, innovative, and impactful,” pledging to carry forward the ideals and reforms he championed.
“His memory lives on not only in our hearts but also in the progress he inspired. We will continue to uphold the principles and values he stood for,” Amadu added.
The Committee closed its statement with prayers for Adams’ family and a renewed commitment to building on his legacy.
