The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has formally dissociated itself from a planned protest reportedly being organised by a group identified as “Concerned Staff” within the National Assembly.
In a statement signed by PASAN Chairman, Comrade Sunday Sabiyyi, the union made it clear that it is not involved in any way with the planned action, which was circulated on a WhatsApp platform known as “NASS FORUM.”
According to the statement, the individuals behind the protest allege that unresolved staff issues remain, but PASAN asserts that these matters have been largely addressed by the management of the National Assembly. The union further noted that it has already constituted a committee to look into any outstanding “grey areas,” and that discussions with management are ongoing.
“We strongly advise all PASAN members to remain at their duty posts and go about their legitimate business within the complex,” Comrade Sabiyyi said. “We do not support or condone any form of protest or picketing that disrupts the functioning of the National Assembly.”
PASAN emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and preserving the image of the National Assembly, warning that unauthorised protests risk tarnishing the institution’s reputation.
The union called on the National Assembly management to investigate the planned protest and take appropriate steps to prevent any disruptions. It also urged the management to clearly communicate with all staff, reinforcing the need for discipline and decorum within the premises.
PASAN reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with the National Assembly management to resolve staff-related issues through proper and constructive dialogue.
