Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been reassured of their safety following the arrest of a suspect who allegedly circulated a false video claiming a terrorist attack in Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing in Abuja, describing the viral video as “entirely fabricated and misleading.,
According to him, the video, which began circulating on social media on April 9, 2026, featured gunshot sounds and disturbing visuals purportedly from an attack within the FCT. However, investigations revealed that the footage was not connected to any incident in Abuja.
“The Command immediately launched a thorough investigation, including digital forensic analysis, which led to the arrest of the originator of the content,” the Commissioner said.
He identified the suspect as Pam Joshua, a 24-year-old Abuja resident, who allegedly created the video using clips and gunshot effects sourced from TikTok. The content was then falsely presented as a real-time terrorist attack, with captions aimed at inciting fear and panic among residents.
CP Sanusi condemned the act, warning that the deliberate spread of false information poses a serious threat to public peace and security.
While reaffirming the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, he stressed that Abuja remains safe and under constant security surveillance.
“The FCT is secure. We urge residents to disregard such false narratives and rely only on verified sources of information,” he added.
The police boss also cautioned social media users and content creators against sharing unverified or misleading information, noting that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
He further disclosed that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner called on residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious, urging them to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official emergency lines.
