The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON, has expressed profound sadness over the devastating floods that have struck parts of Borno and Bauchi states, resulting in multiple casualties, widespread property damage, and the displacement of thousands of individuals.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio extended his deepest sympathies to the victims and the governments of both affected states.
Offering condolences on behalf of his family, the Senate, and the National Assembly, Akpabio said, “Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones, properties, and livelihoods due to this unprecedented natural disaster. We pray for the souls of the departed and offer our support to those struggling to cope with the aftermath.”
He commended the efforts of the Federal Government, as well as the governments of Borno and Bauchi states, emergency responders, and humanitarian organizations for their tireless work in providing relief and assistance to the affected communities.
The Senate President emphasized the readiness of the Senate to support the Borno and Bauchi State Governments, as well as the Federal Government, in providing necessary assistance to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the floods.
The tragic flooding has led to the displacement of numerous residents in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, with the situation reaching a critical point during the early hours of Tuesday. In Bauchi State, authorities have confirmed 24 fatalities, along with extensive damage to homes and farmlands, leaving hundreds of residents without shelter.
The Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, stressed the urgent need for collective action and support for the affected communities as they work to recover from the devastating impact of the floods.
