The chairman senate committee on Police Affairs, Sen. Ahmed Abdulhmad Mallam-Madori says his committee will give legislative backing and pay attention to Police Welfare, Capacity Building to Nigeria police Force.
Sen. Ahmed Abdulhmad stated this on Wednesday during the inaugurals meeting of the committee of police Affairs at the National Assembly Abuja.
According to him,In accordance with the Senate Standing Orders provides the Committee’s Jurisdiction to Police Affairs Budget relating to the operation and maintenance of Police Departments and Commands,Issues relating to recruitment,promotion,benefits and privileges of members of the Police Force, Maintenance of law and Order and ensuring internal security of the
nation.
He further says,the committee will monitor use of Fire-arms,Annual Budget estimates and also oversight Ministry of Police Affairs, Police Formation and Command, Police Service Commission, Nigeria Police Trust Fund and Nigeria Police Academy Wudil.
He commended the 9th Assembly for their outstanding contributions to the establishment of a legal frame work for
the Police Sector.
According to him, these efforts has undoubtedly contributed to the
strengthening and development of the Nigeria Police Institutions. For stance, the National Assembly passed the Bills into Law this includes The Nigeria Police Act, 2020, the Nigeria Police Academy Acts, 2020,the Nigeria Police Trust Fund Act, 2020 ,The Nigeria Police Force College Training Schools and Institutions Act,2023 However, the Police Pension Establishment Bill, 2023, passed by the Senate but he says not transmitted to the House of Representatives for concurrence as the dispensation came to an end and he promise 10th Assembly will revisit the bill for effective working standard.
He congratulated all the member of the committee to found worthy by their respective Constituents and the Senate Leadership to be elected into the 10th Senate and serve into the important Committee like police affairs that is driving force to National Security.
He urge the to make out time to attend Committee meetings, interactive sessions and Oversight visits, as your ideas, suggestions and contributions will be invaluable to the Committee’s to succeed.
