In a recent development at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs has taken a tough stance against Galaxy Backbone Limited for violating the Federal Character Principle. During a public hearing themed “Equal Opportunities for All,” Senator Allwell Onyesoh, the Committee’s Chairman, criticized the agency’s non-compliance with the constitutional requirement for equitable representation in its recruitment practices.
Lawmakers expressed concerns over Galaxy Backbone Limited’s alleged disregard for the Federal Character Principle, as well as the issuance of certificates of compliance by the Federal Character Commission. Despite the agency’s repeated failure to appear before the Committee, the Senate remains resolute in upholding the rule of law and ensuring fairness in government institutions’ employment processes.
Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Dr. Muheeba Farida Dankaka, denied issuing a certificate of compliance to Galaxy Backbone Limited. The Commission requested more time to review its records and provide a comprehensive report on the matter.
Following deliberations, the Committee resolved to adjourn the hearing to allow for further scrutiny. The Senate issued a stern warning to Galaxy Backbone Limited, directing the agency to appear at the next hearing. Failure to comply may result in the issuance of an arrest warrant against the agency’s management.
