By Comfort Olayinka
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, GCON, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Alhaji Ramalan Yero, the Turakin Dawakin Zazzau and father of former Kaduna State Governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero.
Alhaji Yero, who died on Monday at the age of 85, was eulogized by the Speaker as a “patriot, nationalist, and elder statesman” whose life epitomized selflessness, honesty, and service to the nation.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas noted that the death of the revered elder was not only a significant loss to the Zazzau Emirate and Kaduna State, but also to the entire country.
“Alhaji Ramalan Yero was a compassionate, generous, and loving individual who gave his all to the service of humanity and the nation. His death is a great loss,” Speaker Abbas stated.
Reflecting on the deceased’s illustrious life, the Speaker recounted his remarkable career—from his early days as a teacher and headmaster, to his long-standing service at the Nigerian Railway Corporation and UAC International. He also held several leadership positions post-retirement, including chairmanship of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Barnawa and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kaduna State.
Turbaned as the Turakin Dawakin Zazzau in 2009, the late Yero was widely respected for his unwavering dedication to community development, particularly in the field of education.
Speaker Abbas prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the soul of the departed and for Jannatul Firdaus to be his final abode.
The Speaker also extended his condolences to the Yero family, the Zazzau Emirate, and the people of Kaduna State.
