The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has congratulated Mallam Shehu Dikko on his appointment as Chairman of the newly reconstituted National Sports Commission (NSC).
This development follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s announcement on October 23, 2024, dissolving the Ministry of Sports Development and replacing it with the NSC.
The chairman of the committee Hon Kabiru Ahmadu, praised the appointment, stating it aligns with the committee’s blueprint for technocrats to manage Nigeria’s sports. Says Dikko’s credentials make him an ideal candidate.
” Both the establishment of the Sports Commission and the appointment of Dikko are totally in line with the Blueprint of the House Committee on Sports to have Technocrats manning the affairs of Nigeria Sports”.
Dikko is a renowned football administrator from Kaduna State, he previously chaired the League Management Company, overseeing the Nigerian Professional Football League.
His experience also includes consulting for the Nigerian House of Representatives Sports Committee from 2008 to 2011,he also contested the Nigeria Football Federation presidency in 2022.
The House Committee views Dikko’s appointment as a significant step forward for Nigerian sports. Hon Ahmadu expressed confidence in Dikko’s ability to elevate Nigeria’s sports reputation globally.
” Mallam Dikko is a thoroughbred Sports Professional whose qualities in the area of Sports cannot be questioned and we believe he is more than capable of taking Nigeria Sports to the next level “, he said.
” Therefore from the House of Representatives, we see this as a big step in the right direction to get our sports where it rightly belongs among the Sporting Countries of the World”.
The lawmaker representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal constituency urged Dikko to leverage his expertise to revamp Nigerian sports. Dikko’s new role is pivotal in President Tinubu’s strategy to create a vibrant sports economy.
