Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has congratulated the Super Eagles on their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, describing the win as a “proud moment for Nigerian football.”
The victory, fueled by a stunning hat-trick from star striker Victor Osimhen and a late strike from Frank Onyeka, sealed Nigeria’s spot in the CAF playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Morocco from November 13 to 16, 2025.
Hon. Kabiru, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, commended the team’s passion and resilience, urging them to maintain focus as the journey to the World Cup enters its decisive phase.
“While the mission is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating this vital win and wishing the team every success in the upcoming playoff,” he stated.
He noted that the victory has reignited hope across the nation, reflecting Nigerians’ unwavering belief that the Super Eagles deserve a place on football’s biggest stage — the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Reaffirming the National Assembly’s commitment to sports development, Hon. Kabiru assured the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the coaching crew of full legislative support as the team prepares for the final qualification hurdle.
“The National Assembly and the Federal Government remain committed to supporting the team in every way possible. Nigerians everywhere believe in you — and I do too. We look forward to seeing you proudly represent our country on the global stage,” he said.
Currently, Nigeria ranks third among the best-performing second-placed teams in the CAF qualification table, trailing Gabon and Cameroon. The Super Eagles have accumulated 15 points with a +7 goal difference, narrowly ahead of Burkina Faso who sit on equal points but with a +6 goal difference.
The rankings were recently updated following Eritrea’s withdrawal from the qualifiers, prompting adjustments in comparative points across the groups.
With confidence high and momentum on their side, the Super Eagles are now one step away from booking their ticket to the 2026 World Cup — and carrying the hopes of over 200 million Nigerians with them.
