The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they clinched the title after a dramatic comeback against host nation Morocco.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Speaker Abbas described the win as “spectacular and well-deserved,” hailing the team’s resilience and reaffirming their status as Africa’s undisputed football queens.
“The Super Falcons have once again proven their mettle and determination. Their performance in the final match was nothing short of extraordinary,” the Speaker said. “This trophy is more than a win — it’s a powerful symbol of patriotism, hard work, and national pride.”
Commending the team’s spirited performance, Abbas called on the Nigerian Government to formally appreciate the Super Falcons for their dedication and for bringing joy to millions of Nigerians.
Reiterating his commitment to revamping Nigeria’s sporting ecosystem, the Speaker emphasized the need to harness grassroots talent through strategic youth initiatives.
“We must go back to the basics by reviving inter-house and inter-school sports. Catching talents young is the only way to sustain Nigeria’s sporting legacy,” he stressed.
Speaker Abbas also urged Nigerian athletes across the board to remain loyal to the country, noting that their commitment is crucial to the nation’s global image in sports.
