The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has showered praises on Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their early qualification for the quarterfinals of the 2025 African Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
With back-to-back victories — a 3-0 demolition of Tunisia and a hard-fought 1-0 win over Botswana — the nine-time champions became the first team to secure a spot in the last eight of the tournament, showcasing their intent to reclaim the title they last won in 2018.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, described the team’s performance as “dominant” and “a clear statement of intent,” expressing full confidence in the squad’s ability to lift a historic tenth continental crown.
“Slowly but surely, the best team in Africa is progressing toward winning a tenth title,” said Hon. Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency. “The Super Falcons are clearly focused on reclaiming their crown.”
He reaffirmed national backing for the team, noting that “the Federal Government, National Sports Commission, the NFF, and over 180 million Nigerians are fully behind the Super Falcons.”
Nigeria wraps up their Group B campaign against Algeria on Sunday, July 13, before proceeding to the quarterfinals, where they await their next opponent.
Hon. Amadu also lauded the depth and quality of the current squad, maintaining optimism that the Super Falcons are on track to restore Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
