Nigeria’s Super Falcons soared into the semifinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in emphatic fashion on Friday night, dispatching Zambia with a crushing 5-0 victory — and earning thunderous praise from the National Assembly’s House Committee on Sports.
The dominant display at Stade Moulay Hassan saw goals from Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Tosin Demehin, and Folashade Ijamilusi, sending a strong message to title contenders across the continent.
In reaction, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, commended the Falcons for what he described as “a masterclass in African women’s football,” noting the team’s flawless record so far in the tournament — nine goals scored, none conceded.
“Securing a semifinal spot without conceding a single goal, while scoring nine so far, speaks volumes about the quality of this team,” Amadu said. “We are just two wins away from reclaiming the title we last won in 2018.”
Representing the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, Hon. Amadu emphasized the team’s unifying force and the pride they bring to Nigerians across the globe.
“The Federal Government, the National Assembly, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and indeed the entire 230 million Nigerians stand firmly behind the Super Falcons,” he affirmed.
The Falcons, chasing their record-extending 10th WAFCON title, will now await the winner of the high-stakes quarterfinal clash between defending champions South Africa and Senegal, set for Saturday.
As anticipation builds, the nation watches — united in hope, fueled by the Falcons’ fiery form, and dreaming once more of continental glory.
