The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has showered praise on Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, following their thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The historic win, clinched in Rabat, marks Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title, further solidifying the Super Falcons’ status as the undisputed queens of African football.
Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, commended the team for their resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to national pride.
“I am thrilled to celebrate the Super Falcons of Nigeria on their remarkable achievement,” Amadu said. “Their 3-2 win over Morocco is a testament to their skill and fighting spirit. They have made the nation proud once again.”
Hon. Amadu highlighted the significance of the victory beyond football, calling it a powerful symbol of the strength of Nigerian women.
“This triumph is more than just a sports milestone. It is a celebration of the resilience and excellence of Nigerian women across all fields. Their victory is a source of hope and inspiration for millions,” he added.
Addressing concerns over player remuneration, Amadu assured that the committee is actively working with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure prompt payment of the players’ entitlements from the tournament.
“We are collaborating with the NFF to ensure that the players receive their rightful 30 percent share of the $1 million prize money from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) without any delay,” he confirmed.
The committee reiterated its commitment to promoting sports development and ensuring athletes are treated with dignity and fairness.
With their 10th continental crown, the Super Falcons have once again written their names in African football history — and the nation is celebrating with them.
