The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District Senator Ede Dafinone has expressed deep concern over the renewed hostilities between the Itsekiris and Urhobos in Warri South Local Government Area, urging restraint and peaceful dialogue to avert further violence.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the lawmaker appealed to both communities to shun acts of violence, stressing that “peace remains priceless and irreplaceable” while violence only brings “pain, destruction, and setbacks.”

He condemned the reported attack on the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) House at Okere-Urhobo, which also left some Urhobo youths injured. Describing the UPU as the heritage and identity of the Urhobo people, the Senator maintained that “an attack on the UPU is, by extension, an attack on the entire Urhobo Nation,” calling for thorough investigation and justice.

The Senator further urged the Federal Government and security agencies to act swiftly in de-escalating the crisis, while emphasizing the need for neutrality, fairness, and proactive measures by law enforcement to protect all communities.

He also tasked traditional rulers, community elders, youth groups, and political actors with fostering unity and reconciliation, while calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conclude the Supreme Court-ordered delineation of Warri Federal Constituency to address longstanding grievances fueling distrust.

“Together, we can sustain the bonds of brotherhood and build a future anchored on justice and harmony,” the Senator said, reiterating his commitment to peace in Delta Central and beyond.
