As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has called on citizens to remain united and extend full support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing that the country’s future rests on collective effort and resilience.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau congratulated Nigerians on the milestone and reminded them of the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers, including Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

“Fellow Nigerians, happy Independence Day. As we celebrate the 65th Independence Anniversary of our beloved country, we must remember the enormous sacrifices made by our founding fathers and recommit ourselves to the ideals they stood for, including the promotion of national unity, peace, justice, and tolerance,” he said.

Acknowledging ongoing challenges, the Kano-born lawmaker expressed optimism that Nigeria would emerge stronger, citing what he described as visible gains from Tinubu’s economic reforms and notable improvements in national security.

He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast, adding that the National Assembly, in collaboration with the ECOWAS Parliament where he serves as First Deputy Speaker, would continue to provide legislative backing for policies that promote growth and stability.

“Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to actualise his policies and programmes as encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda. He has good intentions for the country. We will get it right,” Senator Barau assured.

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate the Independence Day celebrations.
