The outgoing president of the Senate, Senator (Dr) Ahmad Lawan has ask to members of the Senate Press Corps to work with the incoming leadership of the 10th Senate for the betterment of Nigeria.
According to sen. Lawan,has working with press for the past 4years he have Journalists as a very important partners in progress in the society.
He says , part of their success 9th Senate recorded under his leadership is the cooperation he got from press.
Senator Lawan made the statement during the validatry session with the press on Wednesday as part of the activities to bring the 9th Senate a close.
According to him, the new leadership is set to emerge on Tuesday, noted that his leadership had a wonderful relationship with the press as such the Senate under his watch worked together as a people.
While speaking on their achievements during his four-year tenure, Lawan revealed that the former President, Muhammadu Buhari assented to 120 bills within the period in view.
He added that the 9th National Assembly had the opportunity to work with one of the best parliamentary reporters in the history of Nigerian parliament.
Sen.Lawan further stated that the 9th national assembly was able to return the budget to January-December circle on like what it was before they took over in 2019.
However, He reveals that the secret of their success was their ability to work together as Senators of the federal republic of Nigeria and not of parties.
He further stressed that the unity was instrumental to the many successes recorded during the last four years.
“We achieved much in the 9th assembly because we were united among ourselves irrespective of our political parties.
We resolved to work as Senators of Nigeria and not that of our parties
“Another aspect was the fact that, you stood by us, you reported us as partners in progress of the project Nigeria. Your relationship with us was cordial and that translated into the action we put in working for the nation, I want to thank you all for your professionalism in parliamentary reporting.
“With my 24 years as a lawmaker, this 9th assembly’s pressmen were the best I had ever seen, so I want to appeal to you all to extend the same co-operation you gave us to the incoming leaders of the 10th assembly because they would need it to succeed also, just the way we did,” he said.
