The House of Representatives Committee on Housing, led by Hon. Abdulmumin Jibril, has expressed strong disapproval over the absence of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, during the 2025 budget defence session.
The committee, which met to review the housing sector’s financial outlook, declined to accept the presentation by Permanent Secretary Shaibu Belgore, citing the lack of an official authorization letter for his representation.
They condemned this oversight as an act of insubordination, insisting that the Minister personally address the critical issues at hand.
In related developments, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria revealed a 2025 budget proposal of ₦268.39 billion, marking an increase from the previous year, while the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) reported an outstanding 118% performance in internally generated revenue for 2024.
However, Committee Chairman Jibril raised serious concerns about the inadequate funding allocation to the housing sector, urging for increased transparency and better accountability to address Nigeria’s housing challenges.
