Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF),has addressed concerns about the proposed amendment of the ITF law as some individuals have expressed dissatisfaction, feeling that the ITF should stick to its existing functions.
However, Dr. Ogun emphasized that the amendment aims to enrich the ITF’s mandate, rather than create new laws. He clarified that the ITF is building upon its existing mandate, rather than deviating from it.
He encouraged the press to familiarize themselves with the ITF’s mandate, stating, Most people who spoke today have not read the mandate. Please go back, read the mandate, and understand our goals.Dr. Ogun emphasized the importance of understanding the ITF’s objectives.
Dr. Ogun highlighted the ITF’s objective to upskill artisans and address the misconception that there are no jobs in Nigeria. He pointed out that foreigners are taking up jobs in the country, becoming millionaires, and returning to their home countries. This, he argued, demonstrates that job opportunities exist in Nigeria.
The ITF is working to scale up job quality and has received support from artisans. Dr. Ogun expressed his determination to push through challenges and succeed in implementing the President’s renewed hope agenda. Says he is committed to making a positive impact on Nigeria’s workforce.
When asked about potential opposition from a “cabal,” Dr. Ogun dismissed the idea, focusing on the ITF’s commitment to pursuing the President’s agenda without distractions. He emphasized that the ITF will not be deterred by obstacles.
