Senate asks Federal Government  to complete Junior Girls Model Secondary School at Odu-Okpiyegede in Kogi State

The Senate on Wednesday mandated its Committee on appropriation to liaise with the Federal Ministry of education to make provision for 2023 budget for the completation of junoir girls model Secondary School Odu– Okiyegede in Kogi State.

The upper chamber passed the resolution sequel to the consideration of a motion to that effect by Sen.Jibrin Isah during plenary

The motion was titled ‘The need for the completion of the Junior Girls Model Secondary School Odu– Okiyegede in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.”

It was sponsored by Senator Isah Jibrin, an All Progressives Congress member representing Kogi East Senatorial District.

According sen Jibrin, noted that the foruth world conference on women,held in Beijing in 1995, identifed the persistent decriminalization against the girls–child and the violation of her rights as one of the 12 critical area of concern, requiring urgent attention by the Government and the international community, among which is the need for increasing girl-child education.

He says, the recent world Bank report, the female adult literacy rate in the ages of 15 and above for Nigeria stand at 59.4% in comparison to the male adult literacy rate of 74.4%.

According to him, the completion of the school will help in close the gap between male in Kogi and Nigeria in general.

The lawmaker expressed concern that “the project has become one of the abandoned projects in the country as no effort has been made to complete it in line with the laudable intentions of the government.

In the resolution, the senate as a matter of urgent asked the federal government through the Secondary and primary education to complete the project and also directed the senate committee on appropriation include project in 2023 budget.

The senator said completing of the project would boost Educational activities and economic development in Kogi state and Nigeria in general.
