The National Assembly Idoma Journalists Association (Forum of Idoma Journalists) has commended Hon. Mrs. Blessing Onyeche Onuh, the member representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman House Committee on FCT on her achievements in the constituency. The commendation was passed by the Forum during a courtesy visit on Mrs. Onuh over the week.

The Forum which comprises trained and seasoned Journalists from the Idoma/Igede extraction of Benue South Senatorial District, covering the National Assembly aims to assess the performances of federal legislators from the nine council areas of Benue South.

In her welcome address, Hon. Blessing Onuh thanked the forum for the visit and listed her numerous projects. She stressed that by her nature, she was not vainglorious about the achievements, but rather saw it as a genuine way of lifting her constituents.

Recalling her days as the First Lady of Otukpo local government, Mrs. Onuh said she had set up a women cooperative with 20 persons from each village particularly in the local government and was paying each of the 2000 beneficiary N20,000.

She stressed that the number of beneficiaries has increased to 17,000 women, with 70 from each village of Otukpo and Ohimini.

Reeling out her achievements within the 3 years at the Green Chambers, the Rep Member said she embarked on an aggressive sensitization of constituents on the dangers of drugs and narcotics, empowered women and youths, provided job employment, Sponsorships & Scholarship programs, skill Acquisition for Women on Soap making, Disinfectants & sanitizers, sponsorship of 15 Persons on a study (Disaster Management) course in England, Palliatives to victims of Otukpo Main Market Disaster, provided COVID-19 Palliatives, distribution of grants in collaboration with NDE, Grants to Women & Youths across Otukpo/Ohimini Fed.

Constituency, distribution of motorcycles, grinding machines, generating set to women and youth across Otukpo/Ohimini and distribution of hair clippers to Barbers across Otukpo/Ohimini Fed. Constituency.

Speaking further, the Ofi’anya K’Idoma noted that she had completed the construction of the Okpiko Bridge while that of Agadagba Bridge was currently ongoing. She listed other projects to include the construction of an ICT center in Ugboju Community Secondary School, Okpanchenyi, and Otukpo LGA.

On rural electrification, the Lawmaker listed her achievements to include procurement and electrification of 300kva transformer in Onipi/Obena in Adoka, 300kva in Ipugbogbo in Ugboju Icho, 300kva Installation in Entekpa, 300kva in Otukpo township ward 3, as well as the installation and electrification of 300kva transformer in Ogobia, Otukpo currently ongoing.

In the educational sector, Mrs. Onuh said she had embarked on the construction of 6 blocks of classrooms in Okete ward in Otukpo LGA, a block of 6 classrooms in Adoka – Icho ward in Otukpo, a block of 3 classrooms with furniture in Onyangede Ehaje ward of Ohimini LGA, Block of 3 classrooms in the muslim community – Township ward one and
Renovation of Akpachi Primary school in Otukpo LGA.

Furthermore, she said she had Constructed and Rehabilitated the Onyangede – Otiloli – Awume Road in Ohimini LGA, Constructed and Rehabilitated the Illaba Ugboju Road (ongoing), and constructed drainages across the 23 council wards of Otukpo/Ohimini Fed. Constituency.

According to the Lawmaker who was elected on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), but now in the All Progressive Congress (APC), her input in the health sector include the construction of primary health care center in Entekpa ward – Otukpo LGA and Allan ward, Otukpo LGA as well as medical outreach programs across the (23) Council wards in Otukpo/Ohimini.

Mrs. Onuh stated that she had constructed and Rehabilitated Ogoli market in Ugboju-Icho, Otobi market in Otobi ward in Otukpo among others too numerous to mention.

In their separate remarks, Prince Yemi Itodo of Daily Post and Obute James of The Legislature Online commended Hon. Onuh for placing the Idoma Nation on a global pedestal, even as a first-timer, noting that gender was never a barrier to her performance. They further urged the people of her constituency to rally round her.

Earlier, Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Oriri Peter commended the Honourable Member for her outstanding performance which includes several projects/programs across Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency
