— Says he does not engage in propaganda about his achievements

In Nigeria’s rugged political landscape, where rhetoric often overshadows results, Senator Patrick Abba Moro (PhD) stands out—not merely as a politician, but as a relentless advocate for infrastructure development and human capital empowerment. He is a pragmatic legislator and an unwavering voice for the North Central region. From infrastructure and security to health, electricity, and education, his work in the Benue South Senatorial District has positioned him as a transformative figure whose achievements speak louder than ceremony or fanfare.
During a recent media tour of the nine local government areas that make up Benue South, Senator Moro offered candid responses to pressing questions about ongoing and completed constituency projects. While many politicians might deflect criticism, Senator Moro displayed a characteristic candor that has endeared him to his constituents for decades.
“I do not do propaganda with the things I have done for my various communities,” he told reporters. “I believe very sincerely—and I know—that these communities went through pain, under the rain and scorching sun, to elect me. So, when I do things for them, I don’t believe in propagandizing about it.” It is this humility, paired with consistent action, that has enabled the senator to deliver across sectors in an era where tangible achievements are often sacrificed for optics.
Senator Moro’s constituency projects span the breadth of Benue South, with visible development in all nine local government areas. In Ogbadibo, his interventions include the electrification of multiple communities, classroom construction, and key bridge projects over rivers like Ogbadibo and Odaburu. In Okpokwu, he has rehabilitated roads, electrified underserved areas, built classrooms, and established a National Open University (NOUN) study center in Ugbokolo.
Otukpo, the administrative hub of the senatorial district, has seen numerous road rehabilitation projects, transformer installations, and healthcare development, including full electrification of communities and the extension of 33KV dual-carriage lines to enhance power distribution.
In Agatu, where violent conflict has long disrupted livelihoods, Moro has provided boreholes, medical equipment, motorcycles, and solar-powered streetlights to improve healthcare access, mobility, and security.
Whether it’s classroom blocks in Oju, the Otukpo–Obi road in Obi, or bridges in Ohimini, the impact of Senator Moro’s legislative engagement is undeniable. He has facilitated the construction of health centers across all LGAs and launched empowerment programs targeting women, youth, and farmers.
Despite completing several Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs), some facilities remain underutilized due to a lack of medical equipment. Senator Moro acknowledged this gap and outlined plans to address it.
“Structurally, they are complete, but by medical standards, they are not,” he explained. “This year, I’ve earmarked funds in my constituency allocation to procure equipment, complete these projects, and hand them over to the communities.”
He expressed disappointment at the vandalism and neglect of some community projects.
“If I build a healthcare facility in your community, I expect the leaders to organize themselves and protect it,” he said, citing the well-maintained PHC in Apa-Agila, supported by philanthropist Edwin Ochai, as a model for community ownership.
Senator Moro did not mince words on the issue of insecurity that continues to plague his district. From Agatu to Ado, communities have endured persistent attacks by bandits and Fulani herdsmen.
“Very sadly, I think the government has failed in this area,” Moro stated. “The primary responsibility of any government is to preserve and protect the lives and property of its citizens.”
He criticized the Benue State Government for what he described as its failure to act. “There’s no record of the Benue State governor visiting victims or even issuing statements to condemn these attacks,” he lamented.
In response, the senator announced the launch of a Benue South Security Trust Fund—a community-driven initiative aimed at providing financial and logistical support for local security efforts.
“We will not fold our hands and watch our people be slaughtered,” he affirmed.
Beyond constituency projects, Senator Moro has proven his capacity in the Red Chamber as the Senate Minority Leader. Notably, he sponsored the motion for federal intervention in attacks by herdsmen and bandits in Benue State. He also successfully championed the bill establishing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC)—a landmark achievement for a region long overlooked in national development strategies.
This legislative victory is hailed as a turning point in addressing the economic and security imbalances of the Middle Belt.
Known for his modest lifestyle, Senator Moro shuns the flamboyance typical of Nigerian politicians. Often clad in simple attire, his style recalls that of the late activist Tai Solarin—a reflection of his roots as a comrade and unionist.
From his days as Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government to succeeding the iconic David Mark in the Senate, Senator Moro’s political journey has been defined by consistency, integrity, and measurable results.
Benue South’s good fortune lies not in electing a politician who makes grand promises, but in having a Senator who delivers on them. His honesty, resilience, and courage in confronting insecurity and underdevelopment set him apart.
Moro’s work has brought electricity to darkened communities, clean water to remote villages, classrooms to underserved schools, and healthcare access to vulnerable populations. His voice has resonated in the Senate Chamber, defending the rights of his constituents and demanding equity for the North Central region.
With a firm promise to complete all ongoing projects before his current tenure ends in 2027, Senator Moro shows no signs of slowing down. He remains committed to securing funding, holding contractors accountable, and engaging community leaders to ensure long-term sustainability.
“I honestly cannot do everything,” he admitted. “But I can assure them that I will continue to do my very best to alleviate some of the hardships they face.”
For Benue South and the North Central region at large, Senator Abba Moro is more than a representative—he is a builder, a defender, and above all, a servant of the people.
