In a landmark appointment that echoes both professional excellence and regional pride, Mr. Rawlins Emmanuel Agada, a seasoned legislative expert and native of Ipari Otukpa in Ai-Oodo, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, has been appointed the Clerk of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The announcement by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) marks a defining moment—not just for Agada’s illustrious career but also for Benue South, a region often underrepresented in the highest echelons of national administration.

A career legislative officer, Mr. Agada’s trajectory through the National Assembly is a compelling testament to commitment and capacity. From his early days representing Nigeria at the Permanent Secretariat Desk of the Pan African Parliament, South Africa, and the Interparliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland, to his impactful leadership as President of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Agada has consistently proven himself a force in legislative affairs.

In May 2019, he was appointed Director of Information and Research, National Assembly a role in which he pioneered several reforms, including the digitization of plenary proceedings, a revamped accreditation system for correspondents, and the inauguration of the National Assembly’s New Media structure.

His administrative acumen further earned him elevation on June 26, 2023, as Deputy Clerk (Admin), House of Representatives, before his deployment to the Senate later that year. His most recent position was Deputy Clerk (Legislative), Senate, prior to his meritorious promotion to Clerk of the Senate.

This is a moment of immense pride for the people of Ogbadibo, Benue South, and indeed the entire Middle Belt—regions that have long battled geographic and demographic disadvantages in national representation.

“We see this as the peak of achievement, yet a springboard to even greater heights,” said Hon. Yemi Itodo, who serves as Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Speaker. “Mr. Agada is not just a son of the soil; he is a legislative juggernaut whose professionalism, humility, and institutional memory will be indispensable to the 10th National Assembly.”
